The Celtic boss declared he had no concerns about the sack, asserting, “We are extremely close to changing our fortunes,” even after sliding worryingly close to being fired with a convincing defeat by Rangers.
Another Capitulation Sees Old Firm Disaster
The Hoops were ahead their oldest rivals at half-time but a disastrous second period enabled Danny Röhl’s team to draw level on points with the defending Scottish Premiership champions. The former MLS manager, who was appointed from Columbus Crew, has now been in charge for six setbacks in his first eight games.
“We are together with the board,” insisted the manager.
Questioned about the speculation, the 48-year-old replied: “It’s not on my mind. I concentrate on discovering solutions to help my team to excel on small moments.
Supporters' Anger On Display
Hundreds of supporters displayed their anger – towards the hierarchy – by protesting outside the stadium. The hierarchy are reportedly likely to return to Martin O’Neill, who steered the club during a caretaker period before Nancy was hired, should a change be made.
“It’s the results [that leads to pressure]. And that’s the situation for the moment. But by saying that’s how it is, that is not a sign that I am giving up. No. The message is the turnaround is near, extremely close to reverse our form.”
Nancy’s Persistent Belief
Nancy remains focused on the fact the side play well for 45 minutes at a time. In fact, but for missed chances they could have been better than 1-0 up. “I saw enough aside from the fact that we missed our chances,” he said. “I accept that we lost, but I must remain fair.
“The level we had at times was really, really, really high. That happened. And I would not speak so positively if it was different. Therefore, regarding outcomes, I noted this is the same story. That’s why I believe we are nearly there to things turning around. But for the moment: details, details, details.”
“We produced plenty of positives that we did, as was the case today. But now is consistency. My outlook would change the same. Therefore I am convinced we’re going to be able to get back on track.”
Röhl’s Cautious Response
Danny Röhl refused to contemplate a championship push despite what felt like a huge result. “One match at a time, so we can develop momentum,” he said. “The confidence in the group is outstanding.”
