One 60-day cruise around the Australian Coast was terminated days after the fatal incident of an older lady who was stranded by the cruise liner on a remote island.

The elderly woman had been hiking on the tropical location with shipmates from the Coral Adventurer, but parted ways from the group for a rest. The vessel left without her and came back several hours later after the ship staff discovered the woman was not present.

An extensive rescue mission located her body the subsequent day.

Officials are examining the tragedy, together with law enforcement and the official investigator.

The CEO of the shipping company said that passengers and staff on the Coral Adventurer were informed that the rest of the journey had been cancelled due to the "tragic passing and prior mechanical issues".

Via official communication, he further stated that guests would be provided a total repayment, and said the operator was working "to organize the homeward trips of the travelers via chartered flights".

Authorities also published an updated communication, and said they had "provided a directive to the Captain" banning any new passengers from boarding the liner.

The official said that they would attend the ship in the port city upon its arrival.

Timeline of Occurrences

The ship first departed the coastal city on 24 October, and was only 48 hours into the journey at the moment of the 80-year-old's death. The remote island was the initial destination on the voyage.

Travelers on board - who typically pay tens of thousands of money to join the cruise - were taken there for a day trip with the choice of walking or snorkelling.

Relatives Statement

The daughter of the victim said that her family was "surprised and saddened that the liner left Lizard Island after an planned tour without my mum".

In her statement, she described her mum as an "active octogenarian" who was a member of a bushwalking group.

"Based on limited facts we have been informed, it seems that there was a lapse of care and common sense," she mentioned.

She further stated that she hoped the examination would be able to pinpoint what "the company should have undertaken that might have protected Mother's being".

"We understand from the investigators that it was a very hot day, and mother took sick on the mountain ascent," she stated.

"She was asked her to return, alone. Then the vessel sailed away, apparently without performing a headcount.

"At a certain moment in that chain of events, or soon after, mother succumbed, by herself."

Company Response

Through an announcement, the Head verified that the organization was "cooperating fully with officials to support their examination".

He mentioned that the organization was "extremely apologetic that this has occurred" and had extended its total backing to the family.

Cruise Industry Procedures

The ship caters for up to 120 guests with forty-six crew, according to corporate data. It was specifically designed to reach distant regions of the Australian coast and is equipped with "tenders" - minor craft used to ferry individuals on shore trips.

Incidents like this are rare, and cruise ships have protocols to record which passengers are embarking or leaving, according to maritime specialists.

"Leaving covertly or [back] aboard really isn't an choice," an authority commented.

Shipping companies regard these methods with great importance and have "sophisticated systems in place to stop such incidents from taking place," the expert continued.
